Pastor's Page for November, 2004

Pastor John L. Freesemann

In 1972 (during the Presidential race between George McGovern and Richard Nixon) one of my seminary professors wrote me a note saying: When it comes to a contest between clever devils and bungling angels, be assured that the devils will take it every time!

The first thing I heard this morning was a right-wing Christian fundamentalist saying: "God has spoken!" NO! Some of the people of the United States spoke, but God did not. I can only wonder where it will end, what the changes that we will rapidly see will be and how they will affect our lives for years to come. That was not God speaking this morning. It was the mob mentality of 51% of our nation seeking the lowest common denominator, groveling in the fear and bigotry that the "resident" has offered them. And, for those of us who think more deeply, who seek more highly, who want the bungling angels to win, and who long for hope, there remains November 2, 2008. It's only 1,460 days away! It is time to start working.
