We don’t talk about prayer as much as we probably should. It just seems to make sense to me that if you are a Christian, if you are a follower of the way of Christ, if you are connected to a faith community, that you will have a prayer life. It is, for me, a given.
But, I am discovering that it isn’t a given for everybody. Primary among those who have no regularly recurring prayer life are most church members. Yes, we pray when someone gets hurt or is ill. Yes, we pray once in a while when something is particularly bothering us. But, we don’t pray on a daily, planned, basis. Why is that?
As your pastor, I presume that you will take advantage of every opportunity that your congregation gives you to pray.
Prayer Wheel — everyone is connected and I invite you to offer your prayers when a name is given to you of someone who is in need.
Monthly Prayer Vigil for Peace in the Middle East — if there is anything that we should yearn for in this dangerous world it is peace and I invite you to be a part of this every time it rolls around on the calendar.
Weekly Prayer Insert — hopefully you use this on one level or another every day during the week and I invite you to not just use it but build with it until you cover all of the areas on a daily basis.
Prayer requests on Registration Sheets — this is where you begin your sharing and I invite you to take advantage of it to place your prayers before the rest of the congregation by listing the people whose names you speak during the prayers of the congregation.
This might be the easy part of our faith; you can’t do it wrong — unless you choose not to do it at all.
