Supporting Holy Redeemer

     We all know, or should know, that this is a very tight financial year for our congregation. The budget that we passed in December was over $20,000 under funded. While the office and leaders have worked hard to increase revenues and to decrease expenditures, the financial problems of Holy Redeemer need to be owned by all of us.

     There are several things that you can do to help with the “bottom line.” Chief among the things that can be done is to meet the pledge that you have made for 2008, and if you have not made a pledge to contribute anyway.

     But there is more that each of us can do. Among these things are:

  1. bring aluminum cans and plastic bottles on the 2nd Sunday of each month for recycling (the recyclers—Toni, Greg, Marty & PJ —have plastic bags available that you can give to neighbors as you ask them to help you — who would turn down the request to help you raise money for your church);

  2. bring in your printer ink cartridges and put them in the box in the entry to the church so that Carolyn Keck can send them in for cash;

  3. call Kym Prouty and tell her you have something to sell on Craig’s list — provide her with a description, pictures and an estimate of what your item should sell for and she will do the rest;

  4. participate in e$crip by signing up your credit cards and using establishments that will donate to Holy Redeemer if you patronize them;

  5. contribute to Holy Redeemer every time you look something up online by registering with GoodSearch and listing Holy Redeemer, San Jose, as your designated charity

  6. stop by the Bill Board on a regular basis and help with paying the bills by picking one of the tabs and writing a check to cover it (or, contribute cash in that amount — we take either!). Later in the year the Business Leadership Team, which has direct responsibility for all fund raising this year will be unveiling a couple of large fund raisers, for which we hope to be able to get matching funds from Thrivent Financial. When the plans are unveiled, it is hoped that every member of the congregation will ask how they can be a part of the effort. With everyone working together the fund raising efforts will be easier to handle and will garner much more income.

     Folks, the bottom line is that it is your congregation. You need to step up and make it financially sound. In some cases it will not take a large effort to display dividends. In other cases it will take a lot of effort on the part of everyone.

     It is your congregation, however, and no one else is going to step up to keep it financially sound if you don’t!
