One Small Step Potluck

On Sunday, September 23, 2007, HRLC had a potluck after worship, hosted by the Evangelism Small Group Ministry. Between the meal and dessert we had a discussion on the subject of “One Small Step”. (This discussion was a follow-up on the sermon Kym Prouty gave while Pastor John was on study leave.)

Our discussion was a brainstorming & idea generating activity. We did dialogue by posting five questions, one per big sheet pasted on the walls of the parish hall. We put our responses on post-its on each of the sheets. Thanks to all who participated!

To re-cap, the five questions were:

  • What is one small thing you could do to be involved in growing HRLC?
  • What is one small thing you could do to welcome visitors to HRLC?
  • When have you felt really close to God at HRLC?
  • What could HRLC do to assist you in further developing your relationship with God?
  • What type of task force, ministry, or church outing excites you?

For some perspective, there were some answers that feel like BIG steps to me. For example: “invite someone I know”. “Thinking (or praying) about inviting someone” feels much more manageable! Many of the answers reflected a real growth in our understanding and practice of hospitality! (Yeah! Keep growing!)

Your Evangelism Small Group Ministry (Carolyn Keck, Jean Gurga and Leslie Stobbe) will be analyzing the responses we received at our October meeting. In November’s Chrysalis we’ll report to you in more detail.

If you missed the discussion and would like to respond, we’d love to hear from you (preferably in writing, ‘cause we’ll forget something for sure)!

And, by the way, we had a drawing for a cake. After spinning Eddy Vicari multiple times, Carolyn won and shared with all.

Thanks for the fellowship! Thanks for the discussion! Keep praying for the health and growth of our evangelism! Keep visioning HRLC filled with disciples who are passionate about their ministries!
