I SHOWED UP AT CHURCH

Something happened – maybe it was the absence of kids to corral, maybe it was that class on discipleship that has asked us to come to church with an open heart – expecting to get what we most need from worship. Maybe it was just my turn in the rotation to get touched by the Spirit. I’ll never know. Whatever it was I know that as I participated, helped to lead, and let go of myself so that the worship experience could wash over me and fill my heart – it did! I went to Fellowship vibrating with life, from my true self. I just wanted to help everyone I could, in the small ways that we are all capable of doing – getting a plate of food, pouring a cup of coffee, smiling at everyone and saying hello, just listening. That feeling spilled out into the rest of my day. It was two days before Christmas – and I did the unthinkable – I went shopping in the Costco shopping center. It was a joy – I spoke to workers on security duty and smiled and wished well to everyone I saw. I was bolstered even more by my encounters as I was out and about. I knew that my best self was shining that day and I had not felt that way in a long time. I don’t know what happened that day – but I’ll be back next Sunday to see if it will happen again…
