For quite some time evangelism has been primarily overseen at Holy Redeemer by the Evangelism Core Ministry Team. What this has meant, in actuality, is that evangelism - following up on visitors, education. training of members, organization of Bring a Friend Sundays and other programs, etc. - has been left largely to Pastor John and to the office staff. At times this has not been so. But, in general, it has. As a result, at times evangelism has been very front burner and at other times it has been extremely back burner.
Now, it is time to do something else. Although the Evangelism Core Ministry Team will continue to function, we are in the process of putting together a deliberate Evangelism Small Group Ministry. If you are interested in being a part of the effort, please plan to attend the first meeting on August 21 at 7 pm, in the WaIz Room. If you are unable to attend on that evening, but interested. please let Pastor John know.
Evangelism is a Greek word meaning good news. The word has the same root as angels, messengers wire announce good news.
To be about the task of evangelism is to announce the Good News of Jesus through word and deed. Creating an Evangelism Team can be a wonderful opportunity. It can be a joy to encourage people to become stronger, vibrant witnesses to the love of God made known in Jesus Christ. But what does an Evangelism Team do?
Evangelism Team Job description:
Wait: a minute! Doesn't that sound like the calling of every follower of Jesus? Each of us is called to be a witness to Jesus Christ. Absolutely! That is our eventual goal at Holy Redeemer. Although we will start with only self identified members of the congregation, we want to get every disciple at Holy Redeemer involved in evangelism - announcing the good news and inviting others to live it out within this sabbath economically based, unique alternative community that is known as Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church.
