Choir and Commitment

HRLC's choir meets for two months, then takes a month off. For example, the choir meets in March and April and will take May off. We rehearse on Tuesdays in the church, from 6:30 to 7:30 or 8:00 pm. The choir sings on the Sundays during the months we meet, with the exception of the first Sunday of the first month.

Starting in March, choir members were asked to make a commitment that they would be at the rehearsals on time and at church on Sundays when choir sings. Recognizing that folks do have commitments where they are unable to be present some of the Sundays, we agreed that we would allow up to two absences on Sunday (and the associated rehearsals) during the two month period.

We have asked for this commitment for several reasons. It takes time singing together to sing building on each other's strengths - continuity is needed to get a blended sound that makes the best of the abilities of all the singers. Brad, our musician and choir director spends a lot of time figuring out how to present the choir anthems. To do this, he needs to know what / who he has to work with and he tries out various ideas over multiple weeks before we finalize our presentation. We rehearse our music several weeks when we're learning new pieces (and we try to work in at least a couple new pieces each two month period). Choir anthems are chosen and prepared to present thoughtful words and joyous worship. The focus of the choir music is the recognition of the importance of the quality of the presentation - we work to do our best!

The choir will be meeting in June and July with August off, in September and October with November off and in December and January with February off. Each two month period will have its own commitment.

You are invited to join the choir in June and July (or later in the year, if that would work best for you).
