CHANGING PARAMENTS & DECORATING

It seems like such a little thing. Sometimes you come and things are blue. Another day they are green. And, still another day they are red … or white … or purple. Banners come and go — sometimes there are butterflies and sometimes there are sticks and feathers — the lights have things hanging from them, and then they don’t.

“Who does it?” you say. “Must be church gremlins, sneaking in to make things beautiful. I wonder how they know what day to change things?”

But that’s not it. Paraments are changed by (generally) an intrepid few individuals around the church. Sometimes, like when we put up butterflies, there might be more people involved that at other times. But, generally, only a very few show up. It’s boring, you know, to change banners and take out and put away altar paraments and hang things from the lights. Janece always shows up to change the paraments and to help. Pastor John climbs ladders to work with the lights and to hang Bali flags. April Kellett (not even a member) helps out a couple of times a year, and, of course, lots of people show up for butterflies (Carolyn has done a wonderful job facilitating that over the past couple of years).

Well, we’d like help folks! It’s your church, too. You worship here and enjoy the decorations as much as those who take the time to put them up. How about helping? During May the paraments and decorations get changed three times (on three successive weeks). I know that Janece would appreciate it if someone would call her and say “Don’t worry about the paraments today. I’ll take care of them.” I know Pastor John’s knees would love it if someone would say, “I’ll climb that ladder to put up the Bali flags.”

How about it. It would only take about an hour (or less) but it would be appreciated so much longer.
