Do you ever wonder if we are making a difference? Does Holy Redeemer do anything beyond sit here on the corner of The Alameda and McKendrie? Is there anything to us beyond the (ofttimes) poorly attended worship services on Sunday morning? Are our ministries helping those in need?
Well, let me give you a big emphatic YES!
Yes! Toni & I had a "proof" experience on this past Sunday. We went to Columbus Park to advertise for the November 1st Spaghetti Dinner.
Three people immediately recognized me and reported that they had missed our Food Pantry the day before. They said that they were "desperate" for food. One of them, Kevin, had tried to get food from the dumpster at Trader Joe's that morning, but was chased away. He commented "It's good food. I don't know why they wouldn't let me have it."
The three asked if there was any way I could get food bags for them, so Toni and I returned to church to see what could be done.
When we returned with the food bags, they greeted us at the car and were extremely thankful.
Kevin biked away with a big smile on his face. He was going "home" to eat. Joseph wiped away tears as he sat to open his bag. Frances gave me the biggest hug and planted a big kiss on my cheek.
As we drove away & I wiped off the bright red lipstick from my cheek..............
I knew Holy Redeemer is definitely making a difference in our local community.
